Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) are just like nurse practitioners, except that they have their care focus on a specific group of patient like diabetic, newborn, patient who needs critical care, etc. Also, Clinical Nurse Specialists divide their time effectively into five essential areas: management, teaching, consulting, research, and clinical practice. Clinical Nurse Specialists feel that by having a specific target and getting into one particular direction, they can attend to their responsibility more efficiently.

Clinical Nurse Specialists can either practice independently or work in available health care agencies if they want. Being Clinical Nurse Specialists are often chosen by those who prefer a one on one situation with their patients for they see the importance of it more than anything.
